Connect Gmail to 0rd Mail Archive

Enable Gmail IMAP, create a Google App Password, and enter host settings in 0rd.

Last updated

Use this guide to archive a personal Gmail address (or Google Workspace mail that allows IMAP) in 0rd Mail Archive.

0rd connects over IMAP (SSL on port 993). It does not use “Sign in with Google”. You will create a Google App Password and enter it in 0rd.

What you need

1. Turn on IMAP in Gmail

  1. Open Gmail in a browser.
  2. Open Settings (gear) → See all settings.
  3. Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  4. Under IMAP access, select Enable IMAP.
  5. Save changes.

If you use Google Workspace, an admin may disable IMAP. Ask them to allow IMAP for your account before continuing.

2. Turn on 2-Step Verification

App passwords require 2-Step Verification.

  1. Open Google Account → Security.
  2. Under How you sign in to Google, turn on 2-Step Verification and finish the setup.

3. Create an App Password

  1. Open App passwords (sign in again if asked).
  2. If the page is missing, confirm 2-Step Verification is on and that your organisation allows app passwords.
  3. Create an app password. Name it something clear, for example 0rd Archive.
  4. Copy the 16-character password. You will not see it again.

Use this App Password in 0rd — not your normal Google password.

4. Enter the mailbox in 0rd

  1. Sign in at 0rd.eu/archive and open Archive.
  2. Under Connect IMAP archive, enter:
FieldValue
IMAP hostimap.gmail.com
IMAP port993
IMAP usernameYour full Gmail address (for example you@gmail.com)
IMAP passwordThe 16-character App Password (spaces optional)
  1. Choose Start archiving.

If something fails

  • Invalid credentials — You used your normal Google password. Create an App Password and try again.
  • IMAP disabled — Re-check Gmail IMAP settings, or ask a Workspace admin.
  • App passwords unavailable — Common on some Workspace / advanced-protection setups. You need a path that allows IMAP + app passwords, or another mailbox that supports standard IMAP login.

Notes

  • 0rd only needs IMAP (incoming). You do not configure SMTP for archiving.
  • You can revoke the App Password later in Google Account security if you disconnect the mailbox.
  • Prefer a dedicated App Password for 0rd so you can revoke it without affecting other apps.
