Connect iCloud Mail to 0rd Mail Archive

Create an Apple app-specific password and connect iCloud Mail to 0rd over IMAP.

Last updated

Use this guide to archive iCloud Mail (@icloud.com, @me.com, @mac.com, or a custom domain managed in iCloud Mail) in 0rd Mail Archive.

0rd uses IMAP on port 993. Apple requires an app-specific password — your normal Apple ID password will not work for IMAP.

What you need

  • An Apple ID with iCloud Mail turned on
  • Two-factor authentication enabled on the Apple ID (required for app-specific passwords)
  • A 0rd account at 0rd.eu/archive

1. Turn on iCloud Mail

  1. Sign in at appleid.apple.com or check iCloud settings on a device.
  2. Confirm iCloud Mail is enabled for the address you want to archive.

2. Create an app-specific password

  1. Open Apple ID account and sign in.
  2. In Sign-In and Security, open App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Generate a password. Label it 0rd Archive.
  4. Copy the password Apple shows you.

You need two-factor authentication on the Apple ID for this menu to appear.

3. Enter the mailbox in 0rd

  1. Sign in at 0rd.eu/archive and open Archive.
  2. Under Connect IMAP archive, enter:
FieldValue
IMAP hostimap.mail.me.com
IMAP port993
IMAP usernameUsually the name part of your iCloud address (for example you if you are you@icloud.com). If that fails, try the full address.
IMAP passwordThe Apple app-specific password
  1. Choose Start archiving.

Username tip

Apple’s documentation often says the iCloud IMAP username is the name portion of the @icloud.com address. Custom domains and older @me.com / @mac.com addresses sometimes need the full address. If authentication fails, swap between short and full username before changing anything else.

If something fails

  • Password rejected — Use an app-specific password, not your Apple ID password or device passcode.
  • Two-factor / app passwords missing — Enable two-factor authentication for the Apple ID first.
  • Wrong username — Try full email vs local-part only (see tip above).

Notes

  • Port 993 with SSL/TLS is required; leave the 0rd port at the default unless Apple’s docs for your account say otherwise.
  • You can revoke the app-specific password at appleid.apple.com when you disconnect the mailbox from 0rd.
